FLOWT is our solution for offshore wind. The main components of the FLOWT system are the seabed foundations, the tension leg system, the floating substructure and the turbine itself.
We have developed FLOWT as a tension leg system for a number of reasons.
- Compared with traditional floating anchoriny systems, the FLOWT tension system has a significantly reduced seabed footprint.
- The tension leg system allows for far less movement than traditional catenary anchored systems. This allows an alternative power take-off cable to be utilised.
- The tension leg system is not effected by water depth, and is therefore more cost effective to install than fixed structure offshore wind.
System Benefits
- Can be assembled at port
- Towed from shore and therefore no costly crane vessel required
- Seabed foundation system is typically 50% cost of monopile foundation
- Alternative power take-off cable solution can be utilised
- Suitable for all water types
- Wide range of seabed types
- Can be used as "plug and play" power for offshore installations
